Who this site is for and how it works
Who reads this
A utility, highways or groundworks buyer working to an asset owner's specification usually cannot wait to read the whole document before a tender goes out. They need the governing clause in front of them. A site manager deciding on the day whether suction, air-lance or water-lance excavation suits the ground in front of them needs the same certainty in a different form. Hydro-Excavators.com is written for both, and for the quantity surveyors and CDM principal designers who sit between them.
An independent publisher, not a supplier
Hydro-Excavators.com is an independent UK publisher. It sells no excavation services, hires out no machines and trains no operators. Nothing here is written to move a reader toward a booking, because there is no booking to move them toward.
Where the figures come from
No independent rate book exists for vacuum, suction, air-lance or water-lance excavation. Every cost figure in UK circulation traces back to whoever published it, whether that is a supplier such as Vac UK Ltd, a lead-generation site such as MyBuilder, or a trade body such as PIER (UK). Each figure is named and classified by that source.
The same rule applies to guidance and specification. Where the Health and Safety Executive, the British Standards Institution, the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, the Construction Plant-hire Association through its SAVESIG working group, or an asset owner such as Cadent has published something relevant, the document is named and quoted. That includes the duties set out in the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, the competence schemes referenced across the industry such as CPCS and NPORS, the waste route set out by CL:AIRE, and the strike data collected by USAG.
Independent by design
No excavation services, plant hire or operator training are sold here, only the documents and figures a buyer needs to specify or price the work.
Figures with a name attached
Every cost figure is traced to the company or body that published it.
Written for two readers under time pressure
The buyer specifying or pricing the job, and the site manager deciding on the day whether the technique in front of them suits the ground.
